The RINOS Resurface

After yesterday's historic Republican victory, I suppose one could expect that the Politico would find a couple of RINOs willing to crap on the parade.

This time, it's Lindsay Graham, Trent Lott, and some unnamed 'high profile senator' (McCain?) yakking it up and blaming Sarah Palin, Jim DeMint and the Tea Party because the Republicans didn't take the Senate.

Yes, you have that right..with a dozen seats in play resulting in no GOP losses and six Republican pickups, these despicable RINOS are dissatisfied with losing two senate seat pickups in Nevada and Delaware.

“If you think what happened in Delaware is ‘a win’ for the Republican Party then we don’t have a snowball’s chance to win the White House,” Graham said. “If you think Delaware was a wake-up call for Republicans than we have shot at doing well for a long time.”

According to Lott, if Republicans had run Castle in Delaware Sue Lowden in Nevada and Jane Norton in Colorado, Lott said, Tuesday would have turned out different.

“With those three we would have won and been sitting at 50 [senators],” he observed. Never mind how the voters in the primaries felt, right? Was there any guarantee that any of these three actually would have won?

In Nevada, Sharron Angle took on the Senate majority leader Harry Reid. He brought in thousands of Democrat sturmabteilung and millions in cash for a massive GOTV push in the last few days of the campaign while Angle, running her first state-wide race was left to stumble through trying to put together a ground game without any major support from the RNC. Not only was she outspent, but she was deprived of the kind of experienced professional party foot soldiers she needed to help her win that kind of campaign. Is it any wonder she lost?

The real story is that if Sarah Palin and Jim DeMint hadn't kept the Tea Party activists and candidates within the Republican tent, the massive Republican victory Tuesday simply wouldn't have happened.

Palin and DeMint raised millions for conservative candidates and Palin in particular toured the country raising money and rallying the troops on their behalf. What exactly did RINOS like Lindsay Graham do?

“We’re very proud of the conservative leaders who won their races yesterday,” said Matt Hoskins, a DeMint aide. “Many of these candidates were initially opposed by the Washington establishment yet they prevailed because they had the courage to stand up for conservative principles. At least five new Republicans will be in the Senate next year who will hold Washington accountable by standing up to the big spenders in both political parties.”

That includes new senators DeMint and Palin endorsed and pushed like Pat Toomey (Penn.), Marco Rubio (Fla.), Rand Paul (Ky.), Mike Lee (Utah) and Ron Johnson (Wisc.) in the primaries in direct opposition to the RNC's favored choices. Graham endorsed fellow RINO Chrlie Crist in Florida. Anyone seriously think he could have won, or that he would have been worth anything in opposing Obama's agenda if he had?

“If the establishment is doing finger-pointing this morning it’s because their $8 million gamble in California didn’t pay off,” jabbed a source close to DeMint. “That money could have been used in Colorado, Nevada, Washington and Alaska where the races were much closer and much more winnable. That was a huge fumble.”

What's really happening here is an arrogant reaction to the realization that the establishment RINOs are no longer the future of the GOP.In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the GOP establishment deliberately sat on their hands in some cases when it came to the senate races in an effort to weaken Plain, DeMint and the conservative wing of the party. It's the old story of the ruling class versus the country class.

Need I point out that the RINOS got their ideal candidate in 2008 with John McCain, a supposed 'moderate' and he lost by six points to Barack Obama after running one of the most inept campaigns in US history? Virtually the only thing he did right was to pick Sarah Palin as his running mate, and if she hadn't been on the ticket I guarantee you Obama would have won by at least 15 points.

This isn't a matter of ideological purity - it's a matter of principle versus the same old tired shills in DC-land. And if those principle don't win out, there simply isn't any need for the Republican party any more.Sarah Palin, Jim DeMint and most of the new faces coming into Washington understand that.

If Lott and Graham can't, perhaps it's time they retired.I doubt they'd be missed.
